Biochemistry

Build a strong foundation in biochemistry, from biomolecules and enzymes to metabolism, molecular biology and nutrition.

Biochemistry explains the chemistry of life and provides the foundation for clinical chemistry, haematology, microbiology and molecular diagnostics.

You will study amino acids and proteins, enzymes, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, vitamins and minerals, and bioenergetics. You will then work through carbohydrate, lipid, amino acid and haem metabolism and how they fit together in the fed, fasting and diabetic states.

The course also covers molecular biology, hormones and signalling, nutrition, xenobiotic metabolism and the biochemical techniques used in the laboratory.
